Star India’s Malayalam entertainment channel Asianet has decided to stop the telecast of its flagship reality show BiggBoss Malayalam effective from 21st March due to Coronavirus threat.
Asianet has commenced the 2nd season of BB Malayalam on 5th Jan, 2020 with the plan of going on- air for 105 days. The show has reached its 75th day and its likely to go off- air on 77th day.
The statement issued by Asianet stated “As a responsible channel, it is imperative to ensure the safety of the Bigg Boss families and everyone behind the show as part of the fight against Covid 19. Unfortunately in this emergency situation, the filming of the Bigg Boss Show cannot continue. Therefore, the Bigg Boss 2 telecast will be canceled on Saturday, March 21st for the first time in Asianet. The decision was made in support of the government’s cautious proposals to prevent the spread of coronavirus.”
Sources revealed that BiggBoss Malayalam sets were constructed in EVP Estates located in the outskirts of Chennai. As the Film Employees Federation of South India ( FEFSI ) has announced that all the shooting related to film / TV / Ads will be suspended from 19th March 2020, the continuation of BiggBoss became impossible due to lack of support from the crew and technical staff.
